We presented 177 cases of surgical thyroid diseases admitted and treated surgically at the Dept.
of Surgery, Kyung Pook National University Hospital, for last 7 years from Apr. 1962 through
Mar. 1969, with special emphasis on thyroid cancer. Cases were analyzed in its incidence, clinical
features, the method of treatment, histologu and complications.
Sex distribution revealed preponderance of female with the ratio of 1:13.4 in benign and 1:5.6

benign diseases in 3rd decade of life.
The most common symtom and sign of the thyroid cancer was palpable mass in the neck, and
local invasion and cervical metastases were seen in 48.5% of thyroid cancer by pathological confir
mation.
Pathological confirmation revealed as follos: thyroid cancer 33 cases (18.6%), adenomatous nodular
goister 70 cases (42.9%), benign adenoma 34 cases (19.2%), simple colloid goister 15 cases (8.5%).
Grave¢¥s disease 5 cases (2.8%), and acute and chronic inflammation, including Hashimoto¢¥s disease
